Tasmania - Beauty on our Doorstep
Jo recently had an opportunity to visit the beautiful Apple Isle of Tasmania with APT. Here are her impressions. Highlights of my trip took in Hobart, including Constitution Dock, the colourful Salamanca Markets, and the unique Mona -Museum of Old and New Art which is surrounded by a quaint winery. Historical Port Arthur was recently named winner of the Most Popular Tourist Attraction in Australia for 2014. Freycinet, located in the picturesque Wine Glass Bay, and Russell Falls offer beautiful walks and sensational sunsets. The famous Cradle Mountain with its mystical walks and wildlife crossing your paths was breathtaking. There are so many beautiful, picturesque and intriguing little towns dotted throughout Tasmania. A visit to Bridestowe Lavender Farm is a must along with a stop at The Wall – where the story of Tasmania is being hand carved out of wood.

Tasmania is a hidden gem that we often forget is right on our door step. Whether you are after a self drive holiday or a coach tour, Tasmania has so much to offer and should be on everyone's bucket list.

Jo's Oceania Getaway
4 days at sea....I couldn't ask for a better way to spend them. Oceania invited me to join them to experience what they offer our clients. I took my husband along for company, he spent 20 years sailing for the Australian Navy, so it was the first time he had been on a ship and not had to work! Oceania has so much to offer, we barely had time to just lie by the pool. We participated in so many activities, including art and crafts, games, trivia, golf to name but a few. Oceania has the reputation of the best meals at sea and they certainly lived up to it. The breakfasts, lunches, high teas and specialty restaurants were superb, so much choice and our clothes were just a little bit tighter when we disembarked. Our cabin was well appointed with an extremely comfortable bed. The staff and crew went out of their way to make us feel welcome on board. My husband has always been sceptical of cruising but now is planning the next family holiday.

Maldives - Fun in the Sun
Flying into the Maldives is truly spectacular - as you approach you get your first look at the turquoise water, the white sandy beaches and the remote atolls that make up this unique paradise.

From the moment we set foot on the jetty at Club Med Kani we were in paradise. The staff had come to welcome us, lively music was playing and we were all in awe of the stunning setting. Kani offers a range of accommodation options from standard, interconnecting rooms for families, to over water suites for couples and honeymooners.

The Maldives really is the place to relax - here you can do as much or as little as you like. Swim in the crystal clear water, snorkel, scuba dive, surf, jetski, sailing, glass bottom kayaking, join a yoga class, work out in the gym, get involved with the Club Med team for organised activities - volleyball, beach soccer, Zumba, etc. Or if you are after a little down time relax on a day bed under a palm tree with a book, or find a seat at the beach bar and soak up the atmosphere all around you.

At Club Med all meals are included. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are buffet style, but include chef stations making individual meals from the theme of the night. Kani also has one specialty restaurant specialising in local seafood.

Nightly entertainment is provided by the staff and is varied throughout your stay.

Not to be missed is a half day snorkelling tour to the blue lagoon. An experienced dive/snorkelling instructor takes you to some of the most amazing locations - pristine water, coloured coral, and a huge variety of sea life. Everywhere you looked were schools of amazing patterned fish and sea turtles - make sure you have an underwater camera!

We were then off to Club Med Finolhu Villas - Club Med's newest addition to their Luxury Villas collection – just 52 villas. This place is breathtaking - the sand looks whiter, the water looks bluer and you truly feel like you are in paradise. Upon arrival you are greeted by your butler who takes you to your private villa, gives instructions on your room and surrounds, and advises of their contact number should you need any assistance.

Accommodation options are beachfront or overwater - each with their own pool and private terrace - along with a choice of sunrise or sunset view. The beachfront villas have direct access straight from your terrace to the beach, and the overwater villas have steps leading directly from your deck into the water.

Sunsets in the Maldives are spectacular, so I would recommend being on the sunset side to make the most of your afternoons in this luxurious location.

A trip to the Maldives truly is a memorable experience and there are many other luxurious resorts to choose from. For more information on the beautiful Maldives please call Kristen on 07 5447 4666 or email

Wendy's Spices and Souks Adventure
I recently cruised on Azamara Quest from Singapore to Dubai via Sri Lanka, India and Oman. Azamara Quest has the capacity for 690 guests and has a casual but elegant ambience.

Sri Lanka's capital Colombo is a bustling city that still has a colonial charm amidst its modern progression and a walking tour through the markets is a must. The colourful assortment of vegetables and fresh food looks amazing.

Our first stop in India was Cochin. An hour and a half drive from the port along comfortable roads took us to our traditional houseboat where we cruised the backwaters of Kerala for about four hours, taking in the sights and sounds of everyday life on these amazing waterways. The boat was equipped with two bedrooms and two ensuites for four of us and the on board crew cooked us the most amazing lunch.

Next stop was Goa where we visited the Vasco de Gama market place alive with vendors selling beautiful fresh produce, spices and essential household items. A ten minute taxi ride took us to one of the beach areas with a wide strip of sand, restaurants and a number of very interesting shops.

Mumbai was the big surprise where a population of 22 million seems to function with a sense of calm and purpose. It was not nearly as chaotic and confronting as we had imagined. A visit to the spice market was a highlight of the trip. Thousands upon thousands of chillis are cooked up in big pans then ground, while women stayed around waiting for them. This is enough to keep them going for a year. The smell was overwhelming - almost as if you had ingested a whole cup of chilli. The Terminus railway station is a stunning piece of Victorian and Gothic architecture where 4 million people pass through each day.

On to the beautiful city of Muscat, set with the magnificent backdrop of rugged rock and mountains. The Muttrah Souk is a labyrinth of vendors selling jewellery, clothing, frank incense and the obligatory souvenirs. The Omani people are gentle and welcoming and very proud of their country and heritage.

The cruise was sixteen nights with 8 days at sea which provided the perfect opportunity to unwind, relax and enjoy the ship facilities. The hardest decision is deciding what to eat and what to drink and we managed to overindulge in both!

Roger's desert adventure
Burj Khalifa - World's tallest building
Dubai - a destination not just a stopover
I recently had the opportunity to experience 5 nights in Dubai, and was amazed at the many things one can see and do there.
More often than not Dubai is a popular stopover destination but now it is really becoming a destination in its self.
I went to the top of the world's tallest building, a dhow cruise, fantastic shopping, a desert safari, indoor skiing and an amazing day at the waterparks of Atlantis The Palm.
I was surprised by the cleanliness, tolerance and acceptance of Westerners and a place of virtually no crime.
Dubai is somewhere one could easily spend a week.
I would love to assist you in planning your Dubai stopover or give you ideas for a Middle Eastern getaway.

Lifestyle, Luxury and no more than 500 guests
EUROPA 2 is truly a special ship, she combines the highest standards with special moments and relaxation, giving you the freedom to make your dreams come true - in style. Winner of numerous awards including "best cruise ship in the world", Europa 2 is certainly the best ship I have cruised on. Built in 2013 she is an extremely light and airy ship with some of the largest suites at sea, all with large balconies and 4 specialty restaurants included in the fare. The service was exceptional and you really felt you were in an exclusive luxury boutique hotel and not onboard a cruise ship. Owned by Hapag-Lloyd, one of the largest shipping companies in the world, both German and English are spoken onboard. Some amazing itineraries are planned for the next couple of years, so give Melinda a call on 07 5447 4666 or email to find out further details.
