Dear G & L traveller

It's been a busy start to the year and in between booking lots of European summer sojourns, cruises and tours, we've also been patting ourselves on the back due to a few awards that have come our way, see below. As a reward, we are offering all our valued clients a FREE bottle of Terre a Terre wine for all new bookings made in June and July so start planning your next trip now.

Thank you to all our valued clients for voting for us in the recent Gold List Awards announced by Luxury Travel Magazine. We are pleased to announce that we came seventh out of the top 13 Luxury Travel Agents in Australia. Congratulations to the very hard-working G&L team!

Well done to the G&L team and thanks also to Cruiseco for giving us such great products to sell.

The mini Gregor & Lewis' in holiday mode
Beach Front Villa on Vomo Island
Vomo - that's Fijian for gorgeous
The Gregor Lewis clan recently stepped off the seaplane at their new favourite Fijian isle, Vomo. About 15 minutes by sea plane from Nadi (highly recommended) or 45 minutes by water taxi, Vomo ticks just about every family holiday box - terrific food (mostly a la carte, few buffets), luxury bure around 20 metres from the water and five from the hammock, excellent kids club (with brand new venue due this year), hair braiding (for seven year old girls), massages (for 40 year old men), terrific snorkelling off the beach and very cold Fiji Bitter and cocktails by the pool.

Outside the school holidays, Vomo is mainly kid-free and there's also two private villas at either end of the island that sleep up to eight people each with their own butler. And don't forget to spend sunset at the Rock Bar, a stunning bar perched on the edge of the island overlooking the water.

For all of you Fiji island junkies, think of Vomo as somewhere in between the highly spirited Castaway and the adventurous luxury of Jacques Cousteau.

Getting close to the locals at Venice's Carnivale
It's Amorea
Gregor & Lewis' junior consultant, Amelia Goodridge-Gaines, takes her first trip to Italy and falls in love.

No words can describe how breathtaking Italy is – the history, the architecture, the people, the food. I recently returned from a tour of this amazing country and it was a trip I will never forget.

It all began with a tour of Rome followed by a hands on pasta making class. What an introduction! We then started on a three day journey which included walking through the main square of Naples, marvelling at the ancient ruins of Pompeii, and visiting the beautiful island of Capri and celebrating Saint Antonio day in Sorrento.

The spectacular Amalfi coastline was next, stopping in Positano, Amalfi and a trip to the village of Ravello perched high on the rugged cliffs. Seafood is definitely the highlight– you can never get sick of the beautifully cooked fish along this coast.

From there we continued to Florence, renowned for its fantastic markets, textiles and the statue of David. Walking the streets of Florence felt like I was in a movie. From the chapels and churches, to the Ponte Vecchio - everything captures your eye.

For the grand finale, we were lucky enough to visit Venice Carnivale, a once a year festival that recreates the magic of the first ever event held in the 12th century. It was costumes, masks and music all around us, and was the most fun and fantastic event I have been to. Anyone wanting to experience Carnivale should contact Amelia Goodridge-Gaines at Gregor & Lewis Bespoke Travel. It is amazing and well worth the visit and will run from 26 January - 13 February 2013.
Farewell Jo, Welcome Roger
Jo Rowland has been with the Gregor & Lewis team from the very beginning and is still with us, although you won't see her smiling face in the office anymore. Jo's husband has been transferred across the country to WA so she will now be working for us remotely from her new Perth HQ. How very 2012.

We do however, have a new member of the G & L team to welcome, Roger Koller. Roger has many years of experience and has travelled extensively. From trekking in New Zealand, Nepal, Morocco and the Inca Trail to luxury on the high seas onboard Azamara. Roger loves to discover the world, he has spent time in North America, Kenya, Mauritius, Egypt, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, the Pacific Islands plus some great destinations in our own backyard. Come on by and say g'day to Roger on your next visit.

Don't forget we can also be found on Facebook, just search for Gregor & Lewis Bespoke Travel and any exclusive specials can be found here.

  Walk like an Egyptian!
  The stunning Taj Mahal
  1. What countries did you visit on your holiday?
India, UAE, Jordan and Egypt

2. What were the highlights of your trip?
Taj Mahal in India, Petra in Jordan and the Great Pyramids of Egypt

3. Did you include a cruise on your holiday?
We cruised from Mumbai to Cairo aboard the Azamara Quest. This was our second Azamara cruise and again it was absolutely fabulous. Azamara has become our favourite cruise line – the overall ambience and professional and genuinely happy crew – nothing is too much trouble. Guests are welcomed onboard Azamara as family.

4. Favourite place you visited?
Petra – We had heard so much about Petra but nothing had prepared us for just how magnificent it was. After an hour and a half walk through the gorges (horse rides available if needed) everything suddenly opens up and there it is! We just looked in wonder and thought 'how could all this have been created?'

5.Most memorable moment?
The Great Pyramids. When you first see the pyramids in the distance it really strikes you that you are in Egypt, they are such an iconic sight. Abu Simbel was also a highlight – it is so hard to comprehend that this was created over 4000 years ago.

6. Did you feel safe travelling in India and Egypt?
Yes, although we were a little apprehensive! We did private touring in both India and Egypt and were very well looked after by the local operators. On arrival in Egypt we were met by our driver/guide who immediately made us feel at ease. We were provided with local contact numbers whilst in Egypt if we ever needed assistance and there was always someone there to answer our questions. Egypt is a beautiful destination which is well worth the visit. At the moment there are not a lot of tourists around, so it is a great time to visit and see the magnificent sites without the crowds.

6. Anything you would change for next time?
We would have loved to spend longer in India. It is such a colourful, crazy country with so much diversity of things to see and do. It really is just like what you see on TV and in the movies, and it was great to finally see it for ourselves.

7. Where to next?
France and Switzerland

8. Why travel with Gregor & Lewis Bespoke Travel?
Care and attention to detail.
